Yoga, Activism, and Self-Care

This is a time that calls many to take action - whether on a personal, local, or global level. But the path of activism can be intimidating for those who are just stepping in - and unsustainable to those who have been on the frontline of social justice for a long time. 

Join Amber Howlett and Elle Potter for an exploration of the Yamas, or ethics of yoga philosophy, as guidelines for conscious and sustainable activism. This workshop will not involve asana (physical practice), but will incorporate breath and meditation practices for tools of self-care and self-regulation in these challenging times. The intention is for attendees to leave with resources for helping navigate the complex feelings a lot of us are experiencing, find ways to move forward, and perhaps to feel inspired to take action to create change in our world.

This workshop is donation-based; pay what you can, even if it's $0. Proceeds will benefit the Yoga Buzz 200-hour Teacher Training program, dedicated to empowering a more diverse community of yoga teachers in St. Louis. Space is limited to 40 for this workshop.

Please dress comfortably and bring pillows, cushions, camping chairs, or anything that will make it comfortable to sit on the floor.

The Yoga Experience

Mondays @ 7pm

This is an hour long beginner friendly Vinyasa class. Vinyasa yoga is the connection of the breath and movement creating a smooth and constant flow from pose to pose. This style of yoga helps to relieve tension while cultivating inner peace, self love, body and breath awareness, balance, strength, and flexibility. Class is open to all. 

$10 drop in fee

Love Life and Live Yoga with Jamie

Tues & Thurs @6pm

This beginner/intermediate class focuses on classic postures and correct alignment in the body. Designed for those looking to learn, or return to, the foundations of yoga postures, alignment, breathing, and technique.  Registering online holds your spot in class. Class is open to all.

St. Louis Yoga Tour

Part of the beauty of yoga is that there are so many unique styles, and people respond differently to different practices.  As a part of our 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training program, we have invited a group of guest yoga teachers to share their unique style of yoga with our trainees.  This will provide an opportunity for teacher trainees to experience different styles, followed by a Q&A session with the teacher to learn about the philosophy and methodology behind their style.

These sessions are open to the public, as well!  There are as many styles of yoga as there are individuals who practice, and this is only a small sample of yoga styles available in St. Louis.  The St. Louis Yoga Tour is a great opportunity to sample a variety of styles to discover something new.

Each class is 75 minutes long, and open to all-levels.  Stick around afterwards for a Q&A session to learn more about the hows-and-whys of the style.
